Capabilities

With years of experience in 3D Printing our team can help you create rapid prototypes, detailed models, and functional parts. At 3D Rapid Design we use two types of 3D Printing technology:

3D printing
  • FDM 3D Printing
    • FDM printing allows for cheap and quick prints.
    • Build Volume: 25 x 21 x 21 cm | 9.84 x 8.3 x 8.3 in
    • Layer Height: 0.05mm - 0.3mm
    • Materials: PLA, ABS, PET-G
      • Specialty materials available upon request on orders over $100.

  • SLA 3D Printing
    • SLA printing is capable of much higher detail but the material and process is much more costly than FDM.
    • Build Volume: 145 × 145 × 175 mm | 5.7 × 5.7 × 6.9 in
    • Layer Height: 0.025mm - 0.3mm
    • Materials: Standard Resin
      • We use FormLabs printers, for more options on resin material click here. Requesting non-standard resin may result in increased lead time.

FDM vs. SLA

SLA and FDM are two completely different methods of 3D printing with differences that are most apparent in print time, surface finish, build volume, and cost. SLA printing provides faster print times and better surface finish but is a more expensive process and has a lower total build volume than FDM printing. Due to this SLA is the best choice for small volume high detail components and FDM is best for larger cost sensitive projects that very fine details aren’t essential for.

What is 3D Printing?

3D printing is a manufacturing process that takes 3D computer files and turns them into physical objects by adding material layer by layer. By using a layer stacking building method, 3D printing is able to produce things that would otherwise not be possible. Watch the video to learn more about 3D printing!
